ASR Kicking Ass!

April 9, 2012 in Uncategorized

We’re back on iTunes and we now have an external, large capacity shoutcast server that will handle unlimited listeners. Yes, you heard right. We have already out-grown our cheap little web server and I’m searching for another. A move will suck but it has to be.We’re still experiencing outages and slowdowns from the crappy network we’re currently on but they usually just kick everybody off the server a few times and don’t last very long, so please hang in there, I’ll get it straitened out.

I’ve been playing with getting a site that functions and looks like the old site running, but is up to date and secure, it’s not an easy task and all the external calls to the music database is hell on our cheap server.  So it’ll have to wait till we’re on a better server. I should and hope to be able to transfer our current user registration info over, so everybody won’t have to re-register.

Most of our DJ’s are back and I thank each and every one of you! Contact me if you do not know how to log into the DJ booth yet.

We will commence taking new music as soon as we’re on a new server, we currently do not have the harddrive space. If your group was on the old ASR and it doesn’t seem to be in the current database, please contact me and I’ll put it back in.

A big thank you to those of you who have donated! The bills are paid and we’re not far from being able to get a new server. Hopefully we can get the new server this month.

Please support our efforts here at ASR! Give a little or give alot!!!

THANK YOU!!!

DJ Guidlines…

February 15, 2012 in Announcements

This was taken from streamlicensing.com’s TOS.

http://www.streamlicensing.com/directory/index.cgi?action=page&page=legal_tos

You must honor the DMCA rules whose specifications apply to all Webcasters and include:

  • In any three-hour period, you should not intentionally program more than three songs (and not more than two songs in a row) from the same recording; you should not intentionally program more than four songs (and not more than three songs in a row) from the same recording artist or anthology/box set.
  • You may not publish any advance program guides or use a chat/discussion function or any other means to pre-announce when a particular song will be played or the order in which songs will be played. DJ “teaser” announcements using artists’ names are permitted, but only those that do not specify the time a song will be played.
  • Requests may not be played at a specified time and must not intentionally break the artist and song rotation rules (above). If your service substantially consists of programming from requests, requests must be delayed for at least one hour. For more info see under Item 13 below.
  • Your stream meta-data needs to include artist – title – album info (album info if available). We are required to forward this information to the various agencies so they know which artists and composers to pay and how much to pay them.
  • This license is for non-interactive streaming which means your listeners may not determine in any way when a specific song will be played. A whole bunch of hairy laws govern and define non-interactive webcasting, if you are repeating archived programs or playing your music in a predictive manner, or in any other way allow listeners to directly control when a song plays, you need to obtain further information before proceeding.

What’s going on…

February 14, 2012 in Announcements

I want to let everybody know exactly what the deal is with the station.

I wanted us to be able to have DJ’s and be able to be legal. I didn’t think it was possible till lately. I was running test servers at my house and I couldn’t get the old playlist manager working on the new setups. I got this cheap server for my business website and I was able to get the playlist manager working and then I found http://streamlicensing.com

I starting running a test stream to see how the server would do and then I found out about the group of DJ’s that’s been keeping the light shining.

This server can’t handle allot of listeners, about 40 or so is my guess but we’ve only had 35 max so far. The server hosts have had a hard time with our bandwidth output and their struggling to get their problems straitened out, so that’s why were getting outages at peak times. We will need to get an external shoutcast server in the very near future so we can get re-listed on iTunes and start hosting 300 or so listeners again. We won’t know exactly how much our licensing fees will be until we get the next months bill, this month we paid $20 but next month can be several hundred. An external server will be about $40, so we will be paying $100 a month plus licensing. I’m hoping for about $300 total.

I don’t think we can show our goal on the site like before. But I can’t afford to pay most of the bills anymore. I bought a piece of land and I’m getting ready to build on it so all my extra $ goes to it. If we can’t pay the bills I’ll just shut it down, sorry, but I can’t keep it going myself. I can put it in place and get it started, then it’s up to yall. I’m going to put one of yall in charge of the paypal account and then you’ll know you can trust them when they say how much we need in order to pay the bills.

Feel free to ask questions.

February 6, 2012 in Announcements

Behold! The new ASR!

Email is not functioning properly yet, so please sign up for an account and wait for me to activate your account manually since email activation isn’t working. Just give it a few hours and try to sign in.

I could use some help on the site and the server. If your a linux admin, and/or experienced with wordpress, please leave a reply.

The site is still in development, so it will be changing. Please leave any suggestions or comments on the site.

The only things that needs to be done before we go live is get the email working and get the listen now page working and I’m working it, so we should be live in a few days or so.

Welcome Back Yall!!!
