THE GOOD AND THE BAD ALBUM SUMMARY
For
me the album pulled together a diverse classic and original concoction
of southern fried rock blues and country riffs, incorporating some
clever and inspirational down south musical styles and threads.
All
in their own way were imaginatively crafted, cleverly arranged and
written. I sensed a strong natural evolving style within the band in
their development, they know each other well, do the Melonheadman
family, coached and encouraged by front man Doctor Decimus Crow, who is
no doubt a prime mover in the albums ideas conceptual, developments and
final assembly and compilation!
The lead guitar man Paris
cut the mustard well, with integral tight rhythm guitar work from Danny
Cobalt; both were superb and work oh so well together, bringing that
real southern edge to the album.
Duane on bass guitar
proved to be resolute, consistent and outstanding with some superb
classic rolling liquid bass lines, whilst Elijah on drums showed us his
depth, breadth and experience producing some very creative, complex and
intricate percussive beats that just simply flowed and sounded
effortless. Vocal and backing vocals including Melody brought that good
fervent southern ho down live wire spirit, whilst other songs clearly
brought us a more self and introspective moods and feeling from the
album!
The album has a good mix of depth and variety with
its very own special and unique brand. Melonheadman have collectively
worked very hard indeed in crafting and producing this album, the
musicianship from all band members is of a very high calibre in fact top
class, with well honed seasoned performances from every quarter. The
album tracks are no doubt even better performed live on stage.
I
really enjoyed many of the lyrics and catchy hook lines; certainly the
Dr Decimus languid vocal range was presented with his very own special
and unique Southern drawl. There was no doubt that Dr Crow was certainly
casting his spell and weaving his tails with tongue in cheek, and a
winking eye at numerous points throughout album, delivering his very own
indomitable and captivating shaman style!
The albums
lyrics are in the classic southern vain, poking both fun and warnings,
at want, fear, and madness and singing about of going back some where we
came from, which is what southern rock is all about, being on the
move!
Some of the words are profound and no doubt based
on real personal life experiences and indeed lots of the album songs
make reference to many of life’s complex human conditions needs and
weaknesses that sadly we must all endure.
There are in this
album some highly creative, unusual lyrical and tantalising musical
twists and turns, which certainly made me raise an eye brow or two,
smile, at times sigh and on more than one occasion and take very deep
breaths! The album sound quality is very well professionally produced
and mixed indeed in fact it was excellent well done!
Melonheadman
the “The Good and the Bad” album gives us both side of its very own
original eclectic mix of southern and country rock; above all, it does
what it says on the tin. The album certainly contains originality,
flair, energy, and dynamic with some highly unexpected and unique
directional shifts and changes.
For me personally some good
southern rock including album title tracks “The Good and the Bad “,
“Fire Water Jesus”, “Devils Daughter” “Going Down South” and “Rolling
Home” each one phenomenal in all its own special individual concepts and
context!
I enjoyed it, but that’s just me, and who am I!
Well done MelonHeadMan band, orginal southern states style rock at its
best!

GRITZFEST II TO BE HELD IN HUNTSVILLE, ALABAMA ON FEBRUARY 26th
gritzman writes "All-Star Lineup Includes Bonnie Bramlett
A little less than five years after the first highly successful GRITZFEST in Greenville, SC, Swampland.com, Gritz.net and Concerts South are proud to announce a very special all-star benefit show to be held at Crossroads Music Hall in Huntsville, Alabama on Friday evening, February 26th beginning at 7:30 PM. The concert will benefit GRITZ Charities, with portions of proceeds going to Haiti Relief.
The Southern Rock Homecoming will feature performances by several true “Legends.”
Scheduled to appear is Bonnie Bramlett, “Southern Rock Soul Sister Number One,” whose illustrious career includes a magnificent body of work with Delaney & Bonnie featuring the late Delaney Bramlett. Bonnie was also the only “Allman Sister” ever with The Allman Brothers Band. She is also famous as an actress for her role on TV’s Roseanne and in the recent Kevin Costner movie The Guardian.
Also appearing will be one of Southern music’s finest guitarists, Tommy Talton, co-founder of the 70’s band Cowboy also recorded and toured with Gregg Allman. Tommy is also an amazing singer/songwriter with two recent, excellent albums to his credit.
The “house band” will be Tommy Crain & The Crosstown Allstars. Crain was the red hot guitarist for The Charlie Daniels Band for over 15 years, co-writing many of Charlie’s hits including the muti-platinum “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.” Crain and his smokin’ band, which now boasts Wet Willie bassist Jack Hall, has a brand new live album coming soon and are recording their second studio record as well.
Guy Gilchrist wears two hats. He is best known as cartoonist of “Nancy” fame, as well as drawing “The Muppets” comics, among others. Guy is also a top notch singer songwriter, and will be performing some of his music at GRITZFEST.
Donna Hall (Wet Willie), Michael Buffalo Smith (GRITZ),Sonny Edwards, Karen Blackmon Caldwell (former lead singer of APB) and Shwna P will join in the all-star jam session at the end of the evening, which promises to be quite special. Rumor has it that there may be some more special guests dropping by as well.
The event will also feature an auction of items donated by such stars as Billy Bob Thornton, Gov’t Mule, Charlie Daniels, The Marshall Tucker Band and more.
Admission is by a $15 minimum donation.
Log onto WWW.GRITZ.NET for up to date information on the event."

Last Year In Review
daboogieman writes "First off, harmonica player Larry Tye is taking kidney dialysis three times a week. Next, we had lots of our gear stolen by some stinking crackhead. Eric E lost all his guitars. Lead guitarist Art Jella was in the hosptal for four days and had galbladder surgery. Out just over twenty four hours he played the gig at Smokey Joe's. Now that's Texas pride on Da BoogieMan's side!
Happy New year to one and all hopefully 2010 goes a little smoother!
